Featured image for Email Verification Tools Compared: Choosing a Service in 2026

Every email verification service makes the same promises: fewer bounces, better inbox placement, cleaner lists. The differences only show up in the details. What does the tool cost at your actual volume? Do unused credits expire? Is there a real free tier or a sales call? And what do you get beyond a valid or invalid answer? This guide compares eleven of the better-known options so you can build a shortlist without signing up for all of them.

Two notes before the comparison. First, every price in this guide was verified against each vendor's public pricing page in July 2026. Pricing in this market changes constantly, so treat these numbers as a snapshot as of July 2026 and confirm on each vendor's site before you commit. Second, vendors publish accuracy numbers, and every one of those numbers was measured on someone else's data. Where an accuracy figure appears below, it is the vendor's own claim or guarantee, not something we have independently tested. Run your own list through a trial before you believe any of them.

Full disclosure: 1Lookup is our product, and it is in this comparison. We have flagged it clearly, listed its trade-offs the same way we list everyone else's, and we would rather you test it against the field than take our word for it.

Why verification is worth paying for

Mailbox providers watch your bounce rate, and once it climbs past roughly 2%, they start routing your mail to spam, all of it, not just the bounces. A damaged sending domain takes months to recover. Lists also rot on their own: people change jobs, abandon inboxes, and let old addresses die, so a list that was clean a year ago is not clean now. And if you run free trials or signups, disposable addresses are the standard tool for abuse. Verification at the point of capture is the cheapest place to fix all three problems, because one bad address caught at signup never pollutes your CRM, billing, and lifecycle emails downstream.

Before you compare: four questions

Get clear on these before reading a single pricing page, because they decide which tools are even relevant.

  1. Volume. Validating 5,000 addresses a month and 500,000 a month point to different vendors and very different per-unit prices.
  2. Workflow. Do you need a real-time API on your signup form, bulk cleaning for existing lists, or both?
  3. Channels. Is this an email-only problem, or are you also validating phone numbers and screening IPs? Most tools here are email-only.
  4. Operator. Will a developer wire up an API, or does a marketer need one-click integrations with an ESP like Mailchimp or HubSpot?

The main options

1Lookup

Full disclosure again: this one is ours. Read this section with that in mind.

1Lookup's email validation runs syntax, domain, and SMTP-level mailbox checks with disposable email detection and deliverability scoring, with responses typically under 300ms. The difference from everything else in this guide is the credit system: one credit pool covers email, phone, and IP checks, so teams screening signups or enriching leads across channels do not need three vendors. It is API-first, with bulk processing for list cleaning.

Pricing is subscription-based: plans start at $99/mo for 20,000 credits (about $4.95 per 1,000), falling to about $2.00 per 1,000 on the 1M-credit Enterprise plan, with two months free on annual billing. There is a 7-day free trial with $20 of universal credits. Full details are on the pricing page.

The trade-offs are real. There are no pay-as-you-go packs, so an occasional user cleaning one small list a quarter will pay less at a credit-pack vendor like DeBounce or MillionVerifier. And getting full value from the multi-channel signals assumes you have a developer.

Best for teams that validate email plus phone or IP, signup and fraud screening, and API-centric workflows.

ZeroBounce

ZeroBounce is the deliverability suite of the group: validation plus AI scoring, an email finder, inbox placement tests, blacklist and DMARC monitoring, and warmup, all on one credit system. Purchased credits never expire, unknown results are not charged, and the free tier genuinely recurs at 100 validations per month (a business email domain is required to claim it). ZeroBounce advertises a 99.6% accuracy guarantee, which is their number, not ours.

Pricing changed in a way worth knowing about: self-serve now leads with the ZeroBounce ONE subscription from $99/mo at a 10,000-credit minimum (about $9.90 per 1,000, with annual billing saving 20%). The old $39 for 2,000 credits pay-as-you-go tier is gone from the live pricing page, and dollar prices for other quantities only appear in an on-page calculator. Also budget-relevant: the email finder burns 20 credits per successful query, so credits go about 20x faster there than on validation.

We keep a detailed 1Lookup vs ZeroBounce breakdown and a roundup of ZeroBounce reviews if you are weighing it seriously.

Best for marketing teams that want one subscription covering validation and the whole deliverability toolkit, at volumes comfortably above the 10,000-credit minimum.

NeverBounce

NeverBounce is owned by ZoomInfo and leans into integrations: 80+ native connections (Mailchimp, HubSpot, Marketo, Zapier, and more), plus automated CRM sync on its Growth plan where only new addresses consume credits. It covers both real-time API verification and bulk cleaning, and you can get a free bounce-rate analysis of your first list before paying.

Pay-as-you-go starts at $8 per 1,000 verifications ($0.008 per email), with bulk discounts bringing 50,000 credits to $250 ($5.00 per 1,000, per NeverBounce's own help docs). The Growth subscription is $49/mo for up to 10,000 emails. Two caveats: pay-as-you-go credits expire 12 months after purchase, and the free allowance is just 10 one-time credits at signup. Exact rates for mid and high volumes are only shown in an interactive picker, and 250,000+ per month is pushed to a contact-sales enterprise plan.

See our 1Lookup vs NeverBounce comparison and the collected NeverBounce reviews for the longer version.

Best for marketing and ops teams that live inside an ESP or CRM and want hands-off, continuous list hygiene.

Emailable

Emailable is the developer-friendly pick with fair metering. Credit packs start at $38 for 5,000 verifications ($0.0076 each), dropping to $420 for 100,000 ($4.20 per 1,000) and $2,100 for 1M ($2.10 per 1,000), with an optional subscription that cuts 15% off. Credits never expire, unknown results and duplicates are refunded, and signup includes 250 free credits. It is SOC 2 Type II certified, and the company claims bulk speeds of roughly 10,000 emails in 2 to 3 minutes.

The limits: it is email-only, the minimum paid pack is 5,000 credits, and its deliverability extras (inbox reports, blacklist checks) consume credits quickly.

Best for developers who want a clean API, honest refund mechanics, and mid-market pricing.

Kickbox

Kickbox is deliverability-focused with an enterprise tilt: named customers include Reddit and Mulesoft, unknown results are refunded, and it runs verification infrastructure in both the US and EU with SOC 2 and GDPR compliance. Entry is cheap to test: $5 for 500 verifications, then $70 for 10,000 ($7.00 per 1,000), $500 for 100,000 ($5.00 per 1,000), and $2,999 for 1M. The first 100 verifications are free.

Watch the terms, though: credits expire one year from purchase and purchases are non-refundable, and per-unit pricing at small volumes is higher than the budget vendors below.

Best for compliance-minded teams and EU businesses that value data residency over the lowest sticker price.

The budget and specialty picks

MillionVerifier

The bulk-cleaning price leader: $39 for 10,000 credits ($3.90 per 1,000), $149 for 100,000 ($1.49 per 1,000), and $449 for 1M (about $0.45 per 1,000). Credits never expire, signup includes 100 free credits, and there is a 100% money-back guarantee that even covers risky results it cannot verify with certainty. It claims 99%+ accuracy, their number. It is verification-only, with no finder or enrichment.

Best for cleaning large lists on a small budget.

DeBounce

Similar territory: $15 for 5,000 credits minimum ($3.00 per 1,000), $135 for 100,000 ($1.35 per 1,000), $750 for 1M, credits never expire, 100 free credits at signup, and no feature gating between tiers. DeBounce publishes a 97.5%+ deliverability guarantee, again the vendor's own figure. One catch: special operations are metered heavily, with catch-all validation at 10 credits and enrichment at 20 credits per hit.

Best for cost-sensitive teams that want everything included without a subscription.

Clearout

Clearout pairs verification with an email finder and real-time form protection on one credit pool. Subscriptions start at $16/mo billed annually for 3,000 credits a month; pay-as-you-go starts at $40 for 5,000 credits ($8.00 per 1,000) and falls to $400 for 100,000 ($4.00 per 1,000) and $1,400 for 1M ($1.40 per 1,000). Credits never expire and unused subscription credits roll over. Its 97% deliverability guarantee comes with strict conditions: qualifying sends must go out within 24 hours of verification, and free mailbox providers, educational domains, and Office 365 addresses are excluded. Finder results also cost 4 credits each, so mixed usage depletes credits faster than the headline rate suggests.

Best for teams that want finding and verifying in one account.

Mailgun Validate

Mailgun's validation is an add-on to its sending platform, not a standalone product. It is metered monthly: $1.20 per 100 validations ($12.00 per 1,000) for the first 5,000, working out to about $100 for 10,000 and $670 for 100,000 ($6.70 per 1,000), with rates falling to $2.50 per 1,000 at the 250,000+ tier. There is no free validation allowance; validations require a paid sending plan, and only the $90/mo Scale plan includes any (5,000 per month).

Best for teams already sending through Mailgun who want validation and suppression management in the same account. A poor fit if you only need verification.

Hunter

Hunter is an outreach platform first, verifier second. Plans start at $49/mo for 2,000 credits, and since verification costs half a credit, that covers up to 4,000 verifications; the free plan includes 50 credits a month. Monthly credits do not roll over. If you only need verification, you are paying for a finder, a B2B database, and sequencing you may never use.

Best for sales teams doing prospecting and verification together, not for verification-only buyers.

BriteVerify (Validity)

BriteVerify has gone fully sales-led: as of July 2026 there is no published pricing anywhere on validity.com, the old pricing page is gone, and buying requires talking to sales. It is one of the few tools here that verifies email, phone, and postal addresses, and it integrates deeply with Salesforce and Marketo. Note that purchased credits expire one year after purchase and unused credits are voided, per Validity's terms, and the product was folded into the broader Validity Engage platform in mid-2026.

Best for enterprises already inside the Validity or Salesforce ecosystem. High friction for everyone else.

Comparison table

All prices read from each vendor's public pricing page in July 2026. Several vendors only publish some volume points, and all of this changes, so check the vendor's site before deciding.

Which tool fits which team

Marketing team living in an ESP or CRM: NeverBounce or ZeroBounce, since their integrations do the heavy lifting. If ZeroBounce's $99/mo 10,000-credit minimum is more than you need, our ZeroBounce alternatives roundup covers the cheaper paths.

Bulk cleaning on a budget: MillionVerifier or DeBounce. At 100,000 addresses they cost a quarter to a third of the mid-market tools, and credits keep forever.

Developers building verification into a product: Emailable, Kickbox, or 1Lookup, depending on whether you want the lowest friction, EU residency, or multi-channel coverage.

Signup quality and fraud screening: 1Lookup, ours, because disposable detection plus phone and IP signals in one credit pool is the point. Test it against an email-only tool on your own signup data.

Already sending with Mailgun: the Validate add-on keeps everything in one account.

Enterprise, sales-led procurement: BriteVerify, if the Validity ecosystem and multi-channel verification justify the process.

Getting your money's worth

A few habits matter more than which vendor you pick. Verify at the point of capture, since one check at signup is cheaper than scrubbing five systems later. Cache results so you never pay to verify the same address twice. Put recurring hygiene on the calendar, because a list verified a year ago is dirty again. Size your plan for peak months, not the average, and prefer vendors that let you upgrade or top up easily.

And read the metering fine print, because that is where budgets quietly die: finder queries cost 20 credits at ZeroBounce and 4 at Clearout, catch-all checks cost 10 at DeBounce, and pay-as-you-go credits expire after 12 months at NeverBounce and Kickbox. The headline per-email rate is not always the rate you pay.

Common pitfalls

Buying on price alone is the classic mistake; a cheap tool that waves bad addresses through still costs you in bounces, reputation damage, and support time. Ignoring integration is the second: audit your stack first, then use the free credits to test the actual integration, not just the results. Third is trusting vendor accuracy claims across the board; they are marketing until proven on your data. Last is treating verification as a one-time project instead of an ongoing process.

Making the call

The short version:

  • Multi-channel validation and fraud signals: 1Lookup
  • Full deliverability suite on subscription: ZeroBounce
  • ESP and CRM integrations: NeverBounce
  • Developer-friendly mid-market: Emailable
  • Compliance and EU infrastructure: Kickbox
  • Cheapest bulk cleaning: MillionVerifier or DeBounce
  • Finder plus verifier in one pool: Clearout
  • Already on Mailgun: Mailgun Validate
  • Sales-led enterprise: BriteVerify

Then run a real trial. Shortlist two or three, push the same sample of your actual list through each, and compare the verdicts, the speed you observe, and how the integration felt. Nearly every tool here gives you free credits to do exactly that. Vendor sample data always validates cleanly; yours will not, and that is the point.

Get started

The right email verification tool depends on your volume, your stack, and what a bounce costs you. Whichever you choose, verify before you send: it is the difference between mailing real people and paying to mail nobody.
