Federal Contractor Lookup API

Look up a whole list of companies for federal contracts with a CSV file or the API.

Look up a list of companies by name or UEI: total awarded, number of awards, top agencies and industries and small-business status, at 3 credits per company with federal awards.

A contractor search tells you in seconds whether a company holds federal contracts and how much.

Type a company's name or its UEI. The tool searches the federal government's public spending database, picks the one company that clearly fits and shows the contract dollars it was awarded over the last three completed federal fiscal years, with those years named, and the agency that paid it most.

The total counts contract awards only. Grants, loans and direct payments are left out, and the figure is what agencies committed to pay, not what the company earned or its revenue. A company that is registered but holds only older awards, or only grants, shows $0 for the window. To keep the tool free for everyone, a company searched in the last 12 hours is shown again.

When a name fits several companies the tool does not guess. Federal records often hold the same business more than once, as a parent, its children and look-alike names, so it asks for more of the legal name or the UEI. A company that was renamed may be listed under its other name.

Federal contractor search result card for a fictional company, Sample Aerospace Systems Inc, showing 1.28 billion dollars in federal contract awards over fiscal years 2024 to 2026 and the Department of Defense as its largest agency, with the number of awards and industries held back for a free trial

A contractor search returns these facts, and each one answers a different question.

This is an invented result for a made-up company, laid out the way a real one comes back. The headline is free on this page, and a free trial opens the rest.

  1. Federal contract dollars

    $1,284,500,000

The dollars federal agencies committed in contract awards to the company over the window. It is not the company's revenue, and grants and loans are left out.

  2. Fiscal years covered

    FY2024 to FY2026

The last three completed federal fiscal years, each running October 1 to September 30, so you know what the total measures.

  3. Largest agency

    Department of Defense

The federal agency that awarded the company the most contract dollars in the window.

  1. Number of contract awards

    412

How many contract awards the dollars add up from, so a few large awards read differently from many small ones.

  2. The other four agencies and the top industries

    With their dollars

The agencies and industries that paid the company next, each with its own total.

  3. UEI, parent company and state

    Parent registration, TX

The company's own registration number, whether it is a parent or a child, who owns it and where it is.

  4. Small-business status and business types

    As registered

Whether the company is registered as a small business, and the business types it declared.

  5. Awards of every kind over all years

    All years, all award types

The company's total across contracts, grants and loans since its first award, for the full picture.

Searching for a contractor takes three steps and no signup.

  1. Enter the company

Type the company's name, or its 12-character UEI if you have it. A UEI finds one company exactly, and a name is matched against registered company names.

  2. We read the federal record

The entry is searched in the federal government's public spending database, and the one company that clearly fits is chosen.

  3. Read the answer

You see whether the company holds federal contracts, the contract dollars over the last three federal fiscal years and the agency that paid it most.

One search reads the federal spending record for a company and shows the headline facts.

This is the path a single search takes. Nobody is contacted and nothing is filed.

What one contractor search does
  1. You enter a companyA name, or a 12-character UEI.
  2. The entry is checkedA name that is too short or too long, or a value that is only symbols, is refused before anything is used.An entry that cannot be a company name or a UEI stops here and does not use up a search.
  3. The federal record is readThe company's contract awards over the last three completed federal fiscal years are totalled.
  4. You see the answerHolds contracts, holds none in the window, several companies fit, or not listed.

Bulk contractor checks run the same search on a whole list with one CSV file.

The free tool searches one company at a time. With a 1Lookup account you upload a CSV file in the dashboard, pick the column that holds the company names or UEIs and download the same file back with the result columns filled in on every row. These rows are invented.

Send the company name, or its UEI, to the endpoint with your API key. A company that is clearly identified and holds contract dollars in the window costs 3 credits, and one that fits several companies, is not found, holds no contract dollars or is mistyped costs 0. One search shows the dollars a company was awarded and the agency that paid the most.

  • The years behind the total are named in every answer.

The total covers the last three completed federal fiscal years (October 1 to September 30), written as FY2024 to FY2026, so it is never an unlabelled lifetime figure.

  • A company with no contract dollars is told apart from one that is not listed.

A registered company that holds only older awards or grants shows $0 for the window, and a name nobody holds says so, so a blank is never read as no contracts.

  • A name that fits several companies is not guessed.

You are told several companies fit and asked for more of the legal name or the UEI, so a look-alike registration is not mistaken for the company you meant.

  • The agency that paid the most is shown by its own name.

You see which federal agency awarded the company the most contract dollars, so you know who the customer is.

Sales teams, procurement teams, reporters and analysts all check federal contractors with this tool.

  • Sales teams qualifying a company that sells to government

Check whether a lead really holds federal contracts, how large they are and which agency is the main customer.

  • Procurement and vendor-risk teams checking a vendor's claim

See whether a vendor that says it works for the federal government appears in the public award record, and how much.

  • Reporters and researchers sizing a company's federal business

Read the contract dollars over a named window and the largest agency without searching the database by hand.

  • Analysts checking a counterparty's reliance on federal customers

Get the contract dollars awarded over three fiscal years in one number, with the years written beside it.

These are the questions people ask about the free federal contractor search.

Is the federal contractor search really free?

Yes. You can search companies without an account and without paying anything. A free 1Lookup trial removes the daily limit and adds the number of awards, the other agencies, the industries, the parent company and small-business status.

Where does the information come from?

From the federal government's public spending database, which records the awards agencies make to companies. It is public US government data, and every answer names the fiscal years its total covers.

What do the contract dollars mean?

They are the dollars federal agencies committed in contract awards to the company over the window. That is not the company's revenue and not what it was paid so far, and grants, loans and direct payments are left out of the total.

Why does a company show $0 or come back not found?

A company can be registered and hold only older awards, or only grants, which shows $0 contract dollars for the window. A company that has never been awarded anything, a name spelled differently from its registration, a company listed under a former name and a wrong UEI all come back not found.

What is a UEI?

The Unique Entity ID, a 12-character number of letters and digits that the federal government gives each business registered to receive awards. It finds exactly one company, which makes it the surest way to search.

Why does it say several companies fit?

Federal records often hold the same business more than once, as a parent, its children and look-alike names. The tool does not guess which one you meant: add more of the legal name, or paste the 12-character UEI, and search again.

Why was my entry refused before the search?

A name shorter than 2 or longer than 150 characters, and a value that is only symbols, cannot be a company in the record. The entry is refused with a clear message and does not use up a search.

How current is the data?

It is as current as the public record, and a new award can take time to appear there. A company searched in the last 12 hours is shown again from the stored answer, so a very recent award may not show yet.

Does holding federal contracts mean the company is a good one?

No. It means federal agencies have awarded it contracts. The total shows how large its federal business is, not how well the work went or how the company is run.

Can I check a list of companies at once?

Yes, in a free trial. Upload a CSV with a company column or call the Federal Contractor Lookup API. Each company that holds contract dollars in the window costs 3 credits, and a name that fits several companies, one that is not found or one with no contract dollars costs nothing.
