At a glance

Here is where 1Lookup wins against EDR, and where EDR still wins.

Both look at environmental records, for different questions. EDR, the environmental due diligence products now sold by LightBox, is built around a target property: its Radius Map Report organizes records around the site, the surrounding sites and a set of search distances, and its packages add historical resources and land title reports. The EDR pages print no price and describe no search by company name. 1Lookup takes a company or facility name and returns the EPA's compliance record for the active facilities that carry it, with the counts and a verdict, from one API and one shared credit balance.

1Lookup logo1lookupWhere 1Lookup wins
  • A company or facility name goes in and the EPA's compliance record comes out as data: facilities matched, how many are in significant non-compliance, inspections, notices of violation, formal actions and penalties added up
  • A REVIEW, VERIFY or APPROVE verdict and the ten riskiest facilities, each linked to its record on the EPA's site, with the windows stated in every answer: 12 quarters for compliance and 5 years for enforcement
  • A price on the rate card and one API endpoint, where the EDR pages print no price and describe no API
  • A name no facility carries, a malformed entry and a lookup the EPA could not answer cost nothing, and a CSV with a company column returns one row per company on the same balance that pays for phone, email and IP validation

EDR logoWhere EDR wins
  • The EDR Radius Map Report 'supports ASTM E1527-21 and EPA All Appropriate Inquiries workflows' and includes 'approximate minimum search distances, source documentation, and data currency tracking', with 'customizable distances available where project requirements call for a different scope'.
  • It searches 'federal, state, tribal, local, and proprietary environmental data' around the target property, and GeoCheck adds 'topographic, hydrologic, hydrogeologic, wetland, flood, soil, and geologic information'.
  • The packages go beyond records: historical resources (Sanborn maps, aerial photographs, topographic maps, city directories) and land title reports that look for 'recorded environmental liens, activity and use limitations (AULs), and historical ownership information'.
  • Results come as an interactive LightBox Live workspace, a PDF 'for project documentation and inclusion in due diligence deliverables' and, where available, an Excel file; the Premium tiers list 'Expedited 1-3 Day TAT'.

Short answer

EDR is the environmental due diligence line that LightBox sells: radius map reports on a property, historical resources and land title reports, with no price printed on its pages and no API described. 1Lookup's Environmental Compliance Check starts from a company or facility name and reads the EPA's compliance records, for 3 credits, charged only when a facility is found.

Side by side

Both products are measured on the same criteria, using EDR's own published numbers.

Reports are ordered through EDR's ordering site, reached from an 'Order Now' button, or by contacting sales, and the page's calls to action are 'Request a Demo' and 'Contact Sales'. Four packages (Basic, Standard, Premium and Premium 1980) are each 'built on the Radius Map Report and Sanborn Map Report'.

A real result

This is what one 1Lookup result looks like.

  1. Send a name

POST a company or facility name, with a two-letter state if you want to narrow it. Endings such as Inc and LLC are dropped, and a malformed entry is refused with a clear error and costs nothing.

  2. We read the EPA's records

The EPA's database is searched for active facilities, and only the ones whose own name carries every word you sent are kept. Their compliance status, inspections, enforcement actions and penalties are totalled over the stated windows.

  3. Get the totals and the facilities, flat and structured

The totals, the ten riskiest facilities and an assessment arrive in one JSON payload. A company with a facility that carries its name bills 3 credits, and a name no facility carries bills nothing.

Consider EDR instead if

you are doing environmental due diligence on a site: the EDR Radius Map Report supports ASTM E1527-21 and All Appropriate Inquiries, searches state, tribal, local and proprietary sources, and the packages add historical resources and liens.

Questions

People ask these questions before they switch from EDR.

What does EDR sell?

Environmental due diligence reports and historical resources, now sold by LightBox. The environmental data packages are built on the Radius Map Report and the Sanborn Map Report, with regulatory reports such as the Radius Map Report with GeoCheck and NEPASearch Map Report, historical resources such as city directories, aerial photographs and topographic maps, and land title reports for environmental liens, activity and use limitations and chain of title. Results come in the LightBox Live workspace, as a PDF and, where available, as an Excel file.

How does EDR pricing work?

The EDR pages print no price. Reports are ordered through EDR's ordering site, reached from an Order Now button, or by contacting sales, and the calls to action on the product pages are Request a Demo and Contact Sales. Four packages (Basic, Standard, Premium and Premium 1980) are each built on the Radius Map Report and Sanborn Map Report, and the Premium tiers list an Expedited 1-3 Day turnaround. Checked October 2026.

How much does 1Lookup charge for a company check?

3 credits per company with a facility found, free when no EPA-regulated facility matches. On the Starter plan ($99 a month for 20,000 credits) a check is about $0.015, which covers 6,666 companies a month and is $14.85 per 1,000. At the Enterprise end of the rate card it is about $0.006. EDR prints no price, so no figure is set against ours, and a radius map report on a site is a different product from a company's EPA record.

Where does EDR beat 1Lookup?

On depth around a site. The Radius Map Report supports ASTM E1527-21 and EPA All Appropriate Inquiries workflows, with approximate minimum search distances, source documentation and data currency tracking, and customizable distances where a project needs a different scope. It searches federal, state, tribal, local and proprietary environmental data, GeoCheck adds topographic, hydrologic, wetland, flood, soil and geologic information, and the packages add historical resources and liens. 1Lookup reads the EPA's compliance database only.

Can EDR search by company name like 1Lookup?

The EDR pages describe a search around a target property, its surrounding sites and a set of search distances, and do not mention a company-name search. 1Lookup starts from a company or facility name, with an optional two-letter state, and keeps the active EPA facilities whose own name carries every word you sent.

Does EDR have an API?

The EDR pages describe none. LightBox's Developer Portal, linked from the page footer, features Geocoding, Parcels, Addresses, Assessment, Structures and Zoning APIs. 1Lookup's Environmental Compliance Check is one API endpoint, with the same key and balance as every other 1Lookup product.

How current is each source?

The EDR Radius Map Report includes data currency tracking and a list of the government records searched. 1Lookup reads the EPA's compliance database when you look a company up and says the day it read it in checked_at; the EPA's own FAQ says its data are generally updated weekly. A repeat lookup of the same company by the same user within 7 days comes from the cache at no charge.

What is the best EDR alternative?

If you are assessing a site and need a radius records review, historical maps and liens, EDR and the other environmental report vendors are the tools built for it. If you start from a company or facility name and want the EPA's compliance record for it as data, with a price on the rate card, a bulk CSV and an API, 1Lookup's Environmental Compliance Check bills 3 credits only when a facility is found.

Is EDR worth it in 2026?

For environmental due diligence on a site, yes: ASTM E1527-21 aligned reports, search distances you can customize, historical resources and land title reports are what a site assessment uses. For screening a supplier, a borrower or an acquisition target by name against EPA records, a radius map report is a different product, and 1Lookup's per-company price is printed on the rate card.
