At a glance

Here is where 1Lookup wins against ERIS, and where ERIS still wins.

Both look at environmental records, for different questions. ERIS Database Reports are a records review of a property in the United States and its surroundings, built for site assessments and ordered per property, and ERIS Direct is a subscription that also searches company names, with no price printed. 1Lookup takes a company or facility name and returns the EPA's compliance record for the active facilities that carry it: the counts of facilities in significant non-compliance, inspections, notices of violation, formal enforcement actions and penalties, with the ten riskiest facilities listed, from one API and one shared credit balance.

1Lookup logo1lookupWhere 1Lookup wins
  • A company or facility name goes in and the EPA's compliance record comes out as data: facilities matched, how many are in significant non-compliance, inspections, notices of violation, formal actions and penalties added up
  • A REVIEW, VERIFY or APPROVE verdict and the ten riskiest facilities, each linked to its record on the EPA's site, with the windows stated in every answer: 12 quarters for compliance and 5 years for enforcement
  • A price on the rate card and one API endpoint, where ERIS Direct prints no dollar amount and its pages describe no API
  • A name no facility carries, a malformed entry and a lookup the EPA could not answer cost nothing, and a CSV with a company column returns one row per company on the same balance that pays for phone, email and IP validation

What it costs

From $6.00

ERISWhere ERIS wins
  • The report is a records review of 'government, state, and municipality data / information for any property in the United States': a 'Multiple Radius Database Report meeting ASTM and AAI standards', with maps of the records found within defined radii around the property.
  • An 'Express Preview Report' is available within minutes of ordering, and every record is linked to the final detailed report.
  • The databases it names go well past one agency: the federal Superfund lists (NPL, SEMS), RCRA generators and treatment, storage and disposal facilities, TRI, TSCA and ERNS, and state brownfield, leaking storage tank and voluntary cleanup lists.
  • ERIS Direct searches 'individual addresses and/or company names', returns results immediately, lets you save search criteria and results and combine the results of many searches on one report, and promises millions of records from thousands of sources across North America. ERIS also sells fire insurance maps, topographic maps, city directories, historical aerials, environmental lien searches and chain of title.

What it costs

$95 for one U.S. Database Report on a property, or $145 with the Physical Setting Report (PSR), as printed on the Database Reports page

Short answer

ERIS sells environmental reports on properties: its U.S. Database Report is priced at $95 on its product page, and ERIS Direct is a subscription with no price printed that also searches company names. 1Lookup's Environmental Compliance Check starts from a company or facility name and reads the EPA's compliance records, for 3 credits, charged only when a facility is found.

Side by side

Both products are measured on the same criteria, using ERIS's own published numbers.

ERIS Direct, the searchable online subscription, prints no dollar amount: an annual subscription (paid upfront for a discount, or billed monthly) or a short-term, project-based block of searches paid upfront, with 'Pricing is tiered and determined by usage/ number of searches'.

A real result

This is what one 1Lookup result looks like.

  1. Send a name

POST a company or facility name, with a two-letter state if you want to narrow it. Endings such as Inc and LLC are dropped, and a malformed entry is refused with a clear error and costs nothing.

  2. We read the EPA's records

The EPA's database is searched for active facilities, and only the ones whose own name carries every word you sent are kept. Their compliance status, inspections, enforcement actions and penalties are totalled over the stated windows.

  3. Get the totals and the facilities, flat and structured

The totals, the ten riskiest facilities and an assessment arrive in one JSON payload. A company with a facility that carries its name bills 3 credits, and a name no facility carries bills nothing.

Here is the evidence behind every number on this page.

Here are ERIS and 1Lookup side by side on the terms you check before you sign.

The terms that decide what a year actually costs, rather than what the first month does. “Not listed” means we could not verify it on either product’s published pages, not that the answer is nothing.

Who it is for

Pick 1Lookup or stay with ERIS depending on the job in front of you.

1Lookup logo1lookup

Choose 1Lookup if

you start from a company or facility name and want its EPA compliance record in one API call, priced per company found, self-serve, with no property report to order.

ERIS

Consider ERIS instead if

you are assessing a property and need a records review around the site: ERIS prints $95 for a U.S. Database Report that meets ASTM and AAI standards, with a preview within minutes, and sells historical maps, aerials, liens and title as well.

Questions

People ask these questions before they switch from ERIS.

What does ERIS sell?

Environmental and property due diligence products for the United States, Canada and Mexico. The U.S. line includes Database Reports, report packages, custom area and corridor reports, a NEPA report, a Physical Setting Report and a Climate Risk Assessment, historical products (fire insurance maps, topographic maps, city directories and historical aerials), environmental lien and chain of title reports, and software: ERIS Direct, a searchable online subscription, and the Scriva report-writing platform.

How does ERIS pricing work?

Two ways. The U.S. Database Reports page prints 'Database Report $95' and 'Includes Physical Setting Report (PSR) $145', priced per property. ERIS Direct is a subscription that prints no dollar amount: an annual subscription paid upfront for a discount or billed monthly, or a short-term, project-based block of searches paid upfront, with pricing 'tiered and determined by usage/ number of searches'. Checked October 2026.

How much does 1Lookup charge for a company check?

3 credits per company with a facility found, free when no EPA-regulated facility matches. On the Starter plan ($99 a month for 20,000 credits) a check is about $0.015, which covers 6,666 companies a month and is $14.85 per 1,000. At the Enterprise end of the rate card it is about $0.006. One ERIS property report is not one company check, so the two prices are not set against each other: ERIS prices a report on a property, and 1Lookup prices a company's EPA record.

Can ERIS search by company name like 1Lookup?

ERIS Direct can: its page says searches can be performed on individual addresses and/or company names and that results are returned immediately. It prints no price for those searches. The Database Report page describes a records review for a property and its surrounding area, so an ERIS order starts from a site.

Where does ERIS beat 1Lookup?

On depth around a site. A Database Report is a 'Multiple Radius Database Report meeting ASTM and AAI standards', with maps of the records found within defined radii, an Express Preview Report within minutes of ordering and examples of databases that reach past one agency: Superfund lists, hazardous waste handlers, toxics release, brownfield, leaking storage tank and voluntary cleanup lists. ERIS also sells historical maps, aerials, city directories, liens and title, and covers Canada and Mexico. 1Lookup reads the EPA's compliance database only.

Does ERIS have an API?

Its products and services page and its ERIS Direct page describe none; ERIS Direct is used through a sign-in. 1Lookup's Environmental Compliance Check is one API endpoint, with the same key and balance as every other 1Lookup product.

How current is each source?

ERIS describes ERIS Direct as real-time environmental risk information from millions of records and thousands of sources. 1Lookup reads the EPA's compliance database when you look a company up and says the day it read it in checked_at; the EPA's own FAQ says its data are generally updated weekly. A repeat lookup of the same company by the same user within 7 days comes from the cache at no charge.

What is the best ERIS alternative?

If you are assessing a property and need a records review around the site, ERIS and the other environmental report vendors are the tools built for it. If you start from a company or facility name and want the EPA's compliance record for it as data, with a printed price, a bulk CSV and an API, 1Lookup's Environmental Compliance Check bills 3 credits only when a facility is found.

Is ERIS worth it in 2026?

For a Phase I style review of a site, yes: ASTM and AAI aligned reports, radius maps, historical resources and a preview within minutes are what a site assessment needs. For screening a supplier, a borrower or an acquisition target by name against EPA records, a property report is a different product, and 1Lookup's per-company price is printed on the rate card.
