Security & Fraud Prevention

Every lookup returns a risk signal, not just valid or invalid

A number can be perfectly well-formed and still be a burner, a VOIP line opened this morning, or a number other businesses have already reported. 1Lookup returns a risk score, a spam indicator and line type on the same call as the validation, so the decision to block, challenge or allow can be made in one request.

Most validation tools sell one channel, so a team checking phones, emails and IPs ends up with three vendors, three invoices and three unused balances. 1Lookup bills all of them from a single credit pool on a monthly plan, with no contract, and leftover credits carry into the next quarter instead of expiring at midnight.

What migrating from IP2Location actually involves

Both are REST APIs returning JSON, so the move is a URL, a key and a field mapping rather than a rewrite. The call above is the real shape of each request. Where the work usually goes is the response: our field names differ, and anything you were deriving from a status code may already be a field you can read directly.

  • • Geographic analytics and reporting
  • • Traditional database workflows

1Lookup is best for:

  • • Full user validation

IP2Location vs 1Lookup FAQ

Common questions about IP2Location and switching to 1Lookup

What is IP2Location?

IP2Location is an IP geolocation provider best known for its downloadable IP address databases and the IP2Location.io API. Given an IP address, it returns details such as approximate location (country, region, city), the owning ISP and ASN, time zone, and signals like proxy, VPN, and hosting used for geo-targeting and fraud screening. It is widely used for localizing content, web analytics, and basic abuse detection. Its focus is IP data specifically, rather than verifying phone numbers or email addresses.

How much does IP2Location cost?

IP2Location offers both licensed geolocation databases and the IP2Location.io API, and pricing is tiered rather than a single flat rate. As of publication, IP2Location.io includes a free tier plus paid API plans that start around $49/month and scale up (roughly $249 and $499/month) as query volume and data detail increase, while the downloadable databases are sold under separate commercial licenses alongside a free LITE version. Your actual cost depends on which product, data fields, and request volume you need, so check IP2Location’s pricing page for an exact quote.

What is the best IP2Location alternative?

The best alternative depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you only need IP geolocation and ASN data, other dedicated IP-data providers may be comparable. If you need to verify contact data more broadly — confirming that a phone number, email, and IP are all valid and reachable — a verification-focused platform like 1Lookup is a closer fit, because it combines IP intelligence with phone and email validation in a single API and one universal credit system.

How is 1Lookup different from IP2Location?

IP2Location specializes in IP address geolocation data and databases, while 1Lookup is a data-verification API that validates phone numbers, emails, and IPs through one API and a single universal credit system. 1Lookup’s data is updated daily from FCC and carrier sources, and it adds carrier/HLR lookup, reverse lookup, and fraud and IP intelligence. Both are strong at what they do; 1Lookup’s main edge is unifying phone, email, and IP checks in one place, plus a free trial, rather than covering IP data alone. If your use case is purely IP geolocation, IP2Location may be sufficient; if you need cross-channel verification, 1Lookup consolidates it.

Can I try 1Lookup for free?

Yes. 1Lookup offers a 7-day free trial so you can test phone, email, and IP verification through one API before committing. You can validate real records and see how the single universal credit system works across all three checks during the trial. That makes it easy to compare 1Lookup’s results against IP2Location or your current setup.

IP2Location’s tier bars all start at $0 on one linear scale, so among them a longer bar always means a higher published price. 1Lookup is drawn differently: it is a range band covering its cheapest to its dearest plan, so read where it sits on the scale, not how long it is. IP2Location’s tiers and 1Lookup’s plans cover different volumes, use different pricing models, and do not bill for the same unit of work, so this is not a like-for-like race: check the rate at the volume you actually run. IP2Location figures verified July 2026 against ip2location.com; 1Lookup figures come from its live rate card. Tiers with no published per-1,000 rate are left out, so 3 of 4 published IP2Location tiers appear here.

Before you sign: IP2Location and 1Lookup on the operational terms

The terms that decide what a year actually costs, rather than what the first month does. A blank means we could not verify it on either product’s published pages, not that the answer is nothing.

Term1LookupIP2Location
Minimum commitment

None. Monthly plans with no contract and no minimum volume; cancel any time

Database licenses (Standard, Site, Redistribution) are yearly subscriptions.

The Web Service license is a monthly subscription.

Cost per extra seat

Standard License is priced per server or computing instance, from $99/year per server (DB1) to $2,799/year per server (DB18) and $399 to $3,999/year per server for IP2Proxy PX1-PX8.

Site License is a fixed yearly cost for unlimited servers. No per-user seat charge is published.

Going over your quota

IP2Location.io API plans bill overage as blocks, not per query: $10 per additional 30K IP Geolocation queries on Starter, $50 per additional 60K on Plus, $100 per additional 120K on Security.

The Free plan is listed with no overage charge. Downloadable database licenses have no query quota.

API access

Included on every plan and during the free trial; there is no tier that unlocks it

The REST API is licensed separately from the databases under a Web Service License billed on a pay-per-use monthly basis; database licenses do not include API access.

Rate limit

1,000 requests per minute on standard accounts, with higher limits available on request

IP2Location.io keyless free access is capped at 1,000 queries per day, resetting at 00:00 UTC.

The Free plan with an API key is 50,000 queries per month. No per-second rate limit is published.

Support

Starter: Email Support; Growth: Priority Email & Chat Support; Professional: Chat + Live Meeting; Enterprise: Dedicated CSM

Email via the contact form on ip2location.com; no phone, chat, hours or response times published.

IP2Location.io plans list Standard Support on Free and Priority Support on Starter, Plus and Security.

IP2Location fine print worth reading twice

Published terms that change what IP2Location costs or what you can do with it. Each one links to the IP2Location page it was read on, because a claim about somebody else’s contract should be checkable in one click.

  • The Standard License is reserved for existing customers adding new servers, so new customers must subscribe to the Site License, which for DB11 is $12,980 per year against $1,299 per server for the Standard License.

    Read it on IP2Location’s site
  • The Standard License permits installation on one single server or computing instance, so each additional server requires an additional license.

    Read it on IP2Location’s site
  • On termination the licensee must immediately destroy all copies of the licensed products, so a downloaded database cannot be used after the subscription lapses.

    Read it on IP2Location’s site
  • Fees are non-refundable, and a licensee who terminates the agreement receives no refund or compensation; pro-rated refunds apply only when Hexasoft terminates.

    Read it on IP2Location’s site
  • Incorporating the data into a commercial product or offering it externally requires a Redistribution License, which is quote-only with no published price.

    Read it on IP2Location’s site
  • A Site License is mandatory for CDNs, government, financial institutions, advertising networks, VOD platforms, AI entities and gaming studios regardless of how many servers they run.

    Read it on IP2Location’s site
  • Site License subscribers receive weekly database updates and Standard License subscribers only bi-monthly updates; daily updates require either the quote-only Redistribution License or the IP2Location.io API plans.

  • DB19 through DB26 and PX9 through PX12 have no published price and require a custom quote.

Who this is for

A quick, honest read on which tool fits your use case.

Choose 1Lookup if: you want IP intelligence together with phone and email validation and fraud signals in one API, not IP data on its own.

Consider IP2Location instead if: you specifically need IP geolocation and ASN data, including self-hosted downloadable databases, for localizing content or analytics.
