The Reported Number Check API tells you how many times a phone number was reported to the FTC and what people said the calls were about
Send a US or Canadian phone number and get its FTC reports back: the count, how many said a recorded message or robocall, the subjects, the months and the date of the latest report. 2 credits, charged only when a report is found.

One call returns the count, the subjects and the months
A reported number comes back with its total, the subjects people gave and a count for every month.
- Total reports to the FTC
- Subjects with their counts
- Every month, empty ones too
- Date of the latest report
Recorded messages and robocalls are counted on their own
See how many of the reports said a recorded message or robocall, as a count and as a share of the total.
- Robocall reports as a count
- Robocall share in percent
- Subjects listed beside it
A number nobody reported costs nothing
You are charged 2 credits only when at least one report is found. Everything else is a free answer, in the API and in bulk files.
- 0 credits when none are found
- 0 credits outside the US and Canada
- 0 credits when it cannot be read
- The same credits as every other product
Every answer says which days it counts
Each result carries the day its count starts from, whether the older months are complete and the last day of data counted.
- counted_from and data_through
- A flag for older months still loading
- A 503, never a false zero

Send a number to the endpoint
POST the number any way you write it. Brackets, dashes, spaces and a +1 are all read the same.

No outside call per lookup. The count, the subjects and the months are read from our own copy of the data.

One endpoint reads the FTC reports and works like every other 1Lookup call.
Same authentication, same credit balance, and the same response envelope as every other 1Lookup product. If you have already integrated one endpoint, this one is a URL change.

One row in, one row out
Every number becomes one row, so a list of 500 numbers is a spreadsheet of 500 rows you can sort by reports or filter by the latest report date.
A number with no report is a free row
A number nobody reported comes back as a row with the reason in its own column and costs 0 credits.
The same number written two ways is counted once
Brackets, dashes, spaces and a +1 are read the same, so a repeat in a different format returns the same answer.
Every reported number returns the same fields at one flat price.

Sales, trust and product teams use report counts to see how a phone number has been received.
Outbound sales and contact center teams
Check the numbers you call from. If one has been reported, you see how often, what people said and the date of the latest report before answer rates drop.
Trust and risk teams
Add the report count of a phone number to an account review, next to its line type and carrier, so a reviewer sees what people reported at a glance.
Call blocking and caller ID apps
Show a user how often the number calling them was reported and what the reports said, with the latest report date.
Data teams cleaning a call list
Run a column of numbers through a bulk job and sort the list by report count, with a free row for every number nobody reported.
Developers building a number lookup page
Put the FTC report count, the subjects and the months behind one endpoint and one balance, instead of loading and indexing the public data yourself.
A number with a report is billed, and every other answer is free
A reported number returns its counts. A number with none, a number outside the US and Canada and a check that cannot be read cost nothing.

These are the questions people ask before they check their first number.
What does the Reported Number Check API return?
Send a US or Canadian phone number and it returns what the FTC's Do Not Call reports hold for it: how many times it was reported, how many of those reports said a recorded message or robocall, the subjects people gave with their counts, the count for each month and the date of the latest report. Each answer says which day its count starts from.
Where do the reports come from?
From the Do Not Call reported calls data that the U.S. Federal Trade Commission publishes. When someone reports an unwanted call to the FTC, the number that called and the subject they chose are published. 1Lookup keeps its own copy and adds each new day once the FTC publishes it. The FTC does not verify these reports, and caller numbers can be spoofed.
How far back do the counts go?
The window is the last 12 months, filled in from the newest day backwards. Every answer carries the day its count starts from and a flag that says whether the older months are complete. While they are still being added, the count starts later and can rise.
How much does a reported number check cost?
2 credits per number, about $0.01 on the Starter plan, or $9.90 per 1,000 numbers on Starter and $7.04 per 1,000 on Growth. You are charged only when the number has at least one report. A number with none, a number outside the US and Canada and a check that cannot be answered all cost 0 credits, in the API, the dashboard and bulk jobs.
What does a number with no reports return?
A normal answer with found set to false and the reason no_reports, plus the day the count starts from. It costs nothing and is not a failure. It means no report for that number is in the FTC data we hold for the window.
What happens when the reports cannot be read?
The call returns a 503 with a Retry-After header. It is never billed and never remembered, so a number is never reported as having no reports just because the data could not be read at that moment.
Which numbers can I check?
US and Canadian numbers, written as 10 digits. Spaces, dashes, brackets and a leading +1 are all fine, and the same number written two ways gives one answer. A number from another country is refused with a 400 before any credit is used.
Can I check a list of numbers at once?
Yes. Upload a CSV with a phone column and you get a row per number with Found, Reports, Robocall Reports, Robocall Share, Last Reported and the top subject, among other columns. A number with no report comes back as a free row.
Does it say who owns a number or what kind of caller it is?
No. It counts reports. To see the carrier and line type behind a number use Phone Intelligence, and to see an owner use Reverse Phone Lookup. The report count sits well beside both.
How is this different from Phone Spam Check?
Phone Spam Check returns a rule-based spam score and a suggested action for one number. Reported Number Check returns the FTC's own counts for it: the total, the recorded message share, the subjects, the months and the latest report date. Use the score to decide, and this to see what people reported.
Does it show what the reporters wrote or where they live?
No. It returns counts, subjects and dates only. No reporter's name, number, city or state is stored or returned.
Is there a free way to try it?
Yes. The free Call Reports Checker shows the FTC report count for one number at a time. Use it for a single check, and use the API or a CSV when you have a list or want the answer inside your own product.
To check a single number before you write any code, use the free Call Reports Checker.
A report count is one signal about a number, and these products add the rest.
Here is how reading FTC reports with 1Lookup compares with the other ways to get them.
Each page sets a rival's plans and prices beside ours and says where the rival does the job better. Every figure carries its source and the date it was checked.
