Security & Fraud Prevention

Every lookup returns a risk signal, not just valid or invalid

A number can be perfectly well-formed and still be a burner, a VOIP line opened this morning, or a number other businesses have already reported. 1Lookup returns a risk score, a spam indicator and line type on the same call as the validation, so the decision to block, challenge or allow can be made in one request.

Buy credits once, spend them on whatever you need to check

Most validation tools sell one channel, so a team checking phones, emails and IPs ends up with three vendors, three invoices and three unused balances. 1Lookup bills all of them from a single credit pool on a monthly plan, with no contract, and leftover credits carry into the next quarter instead of expiring at midnight.

What migrating from ipinfo.io actually involves

Both are REST APIs returning JSON, so the move is a URL, a key and a field mapping rather than a rewrite. The call above is the real shape of each request. Where the work usually goes is the response: our field names differ, and anything you were deriving from a status code may already be a field you can read directly.

IPinfo vs 1Lookup FAQ

Common questions about IPinfo and switching to 1Lookup

What is IPinfo?

IPinfo is an IP address data provider that offers an IP geolocation and IP intelligence API. Developers send it an IP address and get back details such as approximate location (city, region, country), the owning ASN and ISP, and signals like hosting, proxy, VPN, and mobile network. It is commonly used for localizing content, analytics, and basic fraud or abuse screening. Its focus is IP data specifically, rather than verifying phone numbers or email addresses.

How much does IPinfo cost?

IPinfo uses a tiered subscription model rather than one flat price. As of publication, it offers a free "Lite" tier for basic country and ASN data, plus paid plans (such as Core and Max) that unlock detailed geolocation, carrier data, and proxy or anonymization detection, with enterprise and custom pricing for very high request volumes. Plans can be billed monthly or annually, so your actual cost depends on which data set and request volume you need. Check IPinfo’s pricing page for an exact quote.

What is the best IPinfo alternative?

The best alternative depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you only need IP geolocation and ASN data, other dedicated IP-data APIs may be comparable. If you need to verify contact data more broadly — confirming that a phone number, email, and IP are all valid and reachable — a verification-focused platform like 1Lookup is a closer fit, because it combines IP intelligence with phone and email validation in a single API.

How is 1Lookup different from IPinfo?

IPinfo specializes in IP address data and geolocation, while 1Lookup is a data-verification API that validates phone numbers, emails, and IPs through one API and a single universal credit system. 1Lookup’s data is updated daily from FCC and carrier sources, and it adds carrier/HLR lookup, reverse lookup, and fraud and IP intelligence. Both are strong at what they do; 1Lookup’s main edge is unifying phone, email, and IP checks in one place rather than covering IP data alone. If your use case is purely IP geolocation, IPinfo may be sufficient; if you need cross-channel verification, 1Lookup consolidates it.

Can I try 1Lookup for free?

Yes. 1Lookup offers a 7-day free trial so you can test phone, email, and IP verification through one API before committing. You can validate real records and see how the single universal credit system works across all three checks during the trial. That makes it easy to compare 1Lookup’s results against IPinfo or your current setup.

IPinfo’s tier bars all start at $0 on one linear scale, so among them a longer bar always means a higher published price. 1Lookup is drawn differently: it is a range band covering its cheapest to its dearest plan, so read where it sits on the scale, not how long it is. IPinfo’s tiers and 1Lookup’s plans cover different volumes, use different pricing models, and do not bill for the same unit of work, so this is not a like-for-like race: check the rate at the volume you actually run. IPinfo figures verified July 2026 against ipinfo.io; 1Lookup figures come from its live rate card. Tiers with no published per-1,000 rate are left out, so 3 of 4 published IPinfo tiers appear here.

Before you sign: IPinfo and 1Lookup on the operational terms

The terms that decide what a year actually costs, rather than what the first month does. A blank means we could not verify it on either product’s published pages, not that the answer is nothing.

Term1LookupIPinfo
Minimum commitment

None. Monthly plans with no contract and no minimum volume; cancel any time

No minimum subscription period; month-to-month or yearly self-serve.

Enterprise is described as 'Custom annual pricing.'

Going over your quota

Overages billed monthly at the plan's per-request rate, prorated and rounded to the nearest $0.01, with no minimum charge.

Published per-request rates: Core $0.000539, Plus $0.000811, Max $0.001030. Plan cards state Core '$0.54 per +1k' and Max '$1.03 for +1k'.

API access

Included on every plan and during the free trial; there is no tier that unlocks it

Rate limit

1,000 requests per minute on standard accounts, with higher limits available on request

No per-second throttling or concurrent-request cap enforced.

Paid plans have a monthly request limit and return HTTP 429 when exceeded; with metered billing enabled, usage continues via overages. Lite is unlimited but country-level only.

Uptime SLA

IPinfo offers Service Level Agreements to Enterprise-tier customers only; no SLA appears for the self-serve Lite, Core or Max plans and the pricing-page comparison table has no SLA row.

The 99.99% figure is presented separately as a design/observed target ('infrastructure designed for 99.99% availability'; pricing FAQ: '99.99% uptime and average response times of 50-200 ms'), not as the guaranteed level of any SLA.

Compliance

Data Processing Agreement covering GDPR.

IPinfo states it does not provide formal certifications such as SOC 2.

Support

Starter: Email Support; Growth: Priority Email & Chat Support; Professional: Chat + Live Meeting; Enterprise: Dedicated CSM

Lite: community-supported. Core and Max: standard support.

  • Database downloads are not included in any self-serve plan and start at $1,000/month, requiring contact with the sales team.

  • The 99.99% availability SLA is offered only to Enterprise-tier customers, not to self-serve Core or Max plans.

  • Requests past the monthly quota are billed automatically as overages rather than blocked, and the Core overage rate of $0.000539 per request is above the in-plan blended rate of $26 for 150,000 requests.

What you actually work in

IPinfo is a live Map IPs tool with a bulk paste box accepting up to 500,000 IPs, a 'Map these IPs' button, and a rendered map of the resulting locations product you log into. 1Lookup is an API and a dashboard you mostly do not log into: you call it from the system that already has the record. Which of those you want is usually the whole decision, so here is theirs.

Who this is for

A quick, honest read on which tool fits your use case.

Choose 1Lookup if: you want to verify phone numbers and emails as well as IPs, through one API and one universal credit balance.

Consider IPInfo instead if: you specifically need IP geolocation and ASN or network data, including hosting, proxy, and VPN signals, for analytics or abuse screening.
